The Runcore Pro IV 32gb arrived today and I quickily cloned an image I made earlier with a minimal Win7 install...took about 20 mins for the entire process!!

One of the things that struck me was that booting actually takes a longer time now(as compared to the 5400rpm Samsung). It used to be ~40s and now its easily 60+s. Not exactly sure whats the issue here but its no biggie for now until I have more time to troubleshoot. While Win7 identified the SSD, I'm currently still searching over the net about the various tweaks required to boost the performance. I tried disabling index search and drive indexing and ran into 2 bsod earlier today but all seems fine now(keeping my fingers crossed).

In the meantime, also got a 320gb WD Scorpio Blue(BEVT-00A23T0) for really cheap from the local shops. None of the guys I approached knew the platter type so I just bought whatever was available after visiting the favorite haunts as I did not expect there to be too much of a difference. I'm assuming that this is a very new model(320 platter) since googling did not turn up any results, and also partitioned it into 2.

Here are the results before tweaking:

WD Scorpio Blue 5400rpm in Ultrabay SATA-IDE(NTFS)

Random Read 512KB : 33.384 MB/s

Random Write 4KB : 1.148 MB/s

Thats probably all for now, still getting used to Win7 but on the whole experience has been pretty positive this far. Reading through the other thread, might also get a wireless card upgrade to one of the "g" ones...

Cheers!

Nice threads, I will sure give my old T42 a try on the IDE->SATA caddy. In HK/China we can get the caddy for alot cheaper, and will also get a USB case for the combo drive.
