Help with SSD in X41T

#1 Post by acwman » Thu Jan 14, 2010 6:22 pm

Please excuse me.. I am not that technically minded in PCs/Laptops. :(

The hard drive in my X41T has recently died. It got to a point where it just doesn't recognize the drive in it anymore. I looked around, and thought I liked the look of the new SSD drives, and bought myself a 'CF card to 1.8" hard drive HDD adapter' off Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 1471wt_939 Which I thought will do the Job. I also bought a 32GB Kingston 133x CF card to go with this.

Well, Trying to install the XP directly does not work. It always stalls either after formatting, or to the point where it starts to copy the files over at 7%.

I have also tried to install xp by installing a fresh XP on a new hard drive on my main computer, and cloning it over to the CF card. After fitting into the adapter and onto the X41, it fails to boot, and just ends up with a flashing curser in the top left hand corner.

I understand that the card is not the fastest available.. but surely it would still boot up?

Is there a list of CF cards that are compatible? or have I just gone about buying the wrong items, or the installation in the wrong way!?

..Any help would be gratefully appreciated, would love to get it working again!

Many thanks
Andy

133x cards are just too slow. You need 233x or faster such as the RiDATA.

Thanks for the reply...But I was wondering that surely the thing would still work, or the very least boot up, apart from just being slow??
I just do not want to waste anymore money on another card if I am going to get the same results I am getting now.

If it works at all then the adapter is working. I have several 8GB, 32GB versions of that 233x RidATA card and they run ok.
