Is there a way to output HDTV to a DVI display?

#1 Post by John H » Fri Jan 15, 2010 12:00 am

I've got a couple of HDTV USB receiver sticks and I'd like to be able to display on a 32" display that I have. The VGA display through the 3-row connector on the left side of the T60 is pathetic.

Can I bring out the HDTV as DVI (HDMI) through something like a USB device?

I don't know the answer to your question but I can suggest another solution. Get an Advanced minidock for your T60...has DVI out. The prices on them has come down to where they are very affordable. This is assuming that your T60 does not have an Intel GPU.

Oh boy! That dock looks great at around $50. And it has DVI output.

Now, I wonder how that can be, since the T60 doesn't have a DVI port itself. Either there is internal circuitry not normally terminated at a DVI connector, or some kind of conversion someplace. Is it not so?

Is anyone actually running the DVI from this dock to a DVI display?

I'll probably get the dock anyway.

OK, I got an Advanced mini dock on eBay and plugged the T60 into it. Also plugged the DVI to the 32" display, but nothing shows up.

Is there something else I should do? Like in the Control Panel?

Two thoughts:

1. Power cycle the monitor.
2. Try the Fn+F7 combination to make sure you're outputting to external screen.
