Adding Bluetooth to T400

#1 Post by jasonth » Sat Jan 16, 2010 2:01 pm

I have a CTO that was ordered by our purchasing department - I gave them the list of exactly what I wanted and they ordered it... and left off one thing - Bluetooth.

I wasn't too upset - it was still much better than getting a standard Dell D800 that they were handing out to new employees at the time.

But now I'm really wishing I would have pushed for the BT option now that I have a BT presentation mouse and headset.

What options do I have? Is it really just as simple as ordering the card and plugging it in? Has anyone else done this? :??:

Here' the official line -

Here's the unofficial line -
Looking at the T400 LCD parts manual - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70425
It looks like most of the LCD cables come with a bluetooth option. So, you'd have to purchase the correct Bluetooth module, remove the LCD bezel, plug in the module, and then reinstall the bezel. The LCD bezels on Thinkpads are very thin plastic, usually held on by very sticky double sided tape. It is easy to break one. Have fun.

Here's the maintanance manual if you need it -

Well... crap. I have another 600 days left on my warranty and don't want to waste it on installing a BT card. I also don't want to have a lenovo tech come out and install it for me.

Looks like I'm stuck with using the nubby USB bluetooth adapter.

I sincerely appreciate the detailed reply, thank you very much!

I use this one in an R500 without built-in bluetooth. Works well, and is small enough to be left in all the time, including in laptop bag.

Why don't you take it to a local certified repair place and ask them for a quote on the price? It'll probably be less than getting a tech out to you.
