Source for X40 logic boards?

#1 Post by ThinkRob » Sat Jan 16, 2010 9:26 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good source of logic boards for the X40? I've been scouring eBay looking for a specific one (or two) with ULV chips, but even the sellers that state FRU numbers don't seem to be reliable enough for me to want to drop a hundred bucks on something that may or may not be the right part. (As an example: I recently e-mailed a seller offering the exact FRU I was looking for -- one of the elusive 5W 1.1GHz Dothan boards -- asking for confirmation that they had that exact board in stock. They assured me they did, then provided pictures of a different board. When I inquired about this, they told me that it was "just the same -- it's compatible with your X40". Sigh.)

If anyone knows of an online store that will ship to either the US or UK and has a good reputation for being able to provide the actual part that I require (and not just what they deem to be a "good enough" replacement), I would be very grateful if you could let me know.

Thanks!
-Rob

If I were you I'd post a WTB ad in the Marketplace with the specific FRUs that you're looking for as a step one.

You've got absolutely nothing to lose.

My guess would also be that you have a far better chance of finding an entire machine with the planar desired than the board per se.

Good luck.

I kinda did that, but it was for a trade request. I may go back and edit that to a WTB.

I think you may be right. I did find a machine on eBay with my second pick (a Dothan ULV), but I'm hesitant to go in for a whole other machine when it's not the exact planar I'm after... besides, where am I gonna store another ThinkPad?! ;)

Well, I do teach courses in storing ThinkPads... :D ...and discounts are available for forum members...

Where would you store an X40?

Let's see...11 A31p machines, 4 T43 units, R6* FrankenPad, plus assorted (circa four) T42s in parts, all 15" models...oh, I forgot the "butterfly"...that one does take a lot of space, especially with keyboard in the "open" position...
