Question on T42 ac adaptor from Newegg

#1 Post by robscomputer » Mon Feb 21, 2005 11:53 am

Hi,

I ordered a IBM ac adaptor from Newegg last week, P/N: 02K6699, for my T42 series notebook. After receiving the ac adaptor I found that the part number on the physical item has a P/N:08K8208, not what is listed on the box. Also the serial number does not match the serial number on the box.

I'm just wanting to confirm that this power supply is the correct version for my notebook. I requested an RMA from Newegg and will be charged $7 restocking fee but I think they didn't correclty described their product on the web site. I much rather pay $49 directly from IBM than save $3 for a questionable product.

Here's the description for the power supply.

Thanks,
Robert

As long as the Spec. on the back of the adapter says 4.5A (output), you are fine.

IBM sells this one for $24 :-) (shipped free!)

You can usually also find them on Ebay (shipped) for less than $30.

Call newegg, and ask to speak to a customer service rep. and tell them what happened. They have the power to waive the restock fee, and would most certainly do it in your case.
It is a toll-free call.

Strange that the IBM one you posted the link to does NOT list the T42.
I am not saying that it won't work, just that it is not listed.

The one from the IBM link is the old-style power adapter. It shipped with the T20 and A20 series. I am pretty sure that it works with the T42 but it's a little bulkier than the new adapter (the one with "ripples").

Thanks everyone for their comments. I'm going to call New Egg and let them know about the problem. It's not a huge deal but I'm more worried about shorting out my notebook and voiding the warrentry if using the wrong power supply.

Thanks again,
Rob

again, if you use it, you are fine. However, if you can get them to take it back a t no cost to you, you can get a better deal elsewhere as pointed out.....

Hi,

I actually returned the AC adaptor to Newegg and received my credit to my account. I'm going to order another AC adaptor from a cheaper source, or from IBM. Thanks for the link.

I also talked to Newegg and they waived the restocking fee. The customer support person was very helpful and said the next time there is a refund or return that does not apply to the on-line web form to call in.

Thanks,
Rob
