R43e frankenpad

#1 Post by scr71822 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 11:21 am

Well i had a T43 that went belly up on the Mobo, so I recently picked up a brand new R51e motherboard real cheap. These boards are great really. The 200m uses the same graphics core as the x300 and supports up to 128mb of reserved system memory, the only draw back I can tell. I covered the s-video port with a piece of plastic and the docking port underneath. This motherboard supports both the 400fsb and 533fsb CPUs which makes it very versatile and it runs the cheaper DDR2 memory. I picked up a T43 heatsink forthe Intel GPU which works perfect on the R51e mobo. I bet with a 2.0+ CPU and a decent Hard drive this system would smoke. No 2010 errors to worry about!

I agree.

It is great for the money! However the economy designation is there because like you mentioned there are some things missing from this model. If anyone is in the market for a cheap laptop that is able to do a little more in the way of graphics- this one can do it!

I like mine but am ready to move on with things. Have fun with your project!

I'm doing another one based on an R51 shell so I'll have a 15in screen one.

The R51e you worked on is a 14 inch screen?

The one I'm trying to sell is a 15" screen. I used to own a couple of 14" Thinkpads but sold them to get me through school. Now I'm down to this R51e and the T400. As for a 15" screen I think that having at least one is a good experience for anyone.

Cheers!
