T400s and docking?

Hello, I have a mini dock series 3 which I am using with my T400s

I have an external 24" display, and it seems to be recognized correctly every time I dock the computer or I boot the computer in the dock.

However my USB-keyboard and USB-mouse which are plugged into the minidock are not automatically recognized correctly.
Typically I will have the T400s in sleep-mode in the bag, pull it out and dock it, and then press the power button to wake it up. Sometimes the USB-keyboard is recognized quickly, sometimes it takes a long time, and sometimes it doesn't find it at all. This is with Win7.

It's worse when booting: I have Ubuntu and Win7 so the first screen I get is GRUB asking which OS should be booted. Usually by this time in the boot sequence my external keyboard is never recognized/working. I then have to open the lid of the machine to select the boot option, then boot to win7. Now if I want to close the lid the machine will go to sleep, so I need to wake it up again... a few steps too much to do every day...

anyone seen something similar? solutions?
