So, I think I am going to do a CLEAN install on my X61t, seems pretty straight forward.
What I WOULD like to do is somehow optimize the migration of my MAIL from windows mail and my outlook mail/calendar PST files, etc. Also, items in pictures, desktop, etc.
Is there some for of migration TOOL that will do this? I know if I do an inplace upgrade, it would do this, but I don't want to in place upgrade?
Cannot seem to find any info here or on the internets.
system migration tool for upgrade from vista to windows 7?
Re: system migration tool for upgrade from vista to windows 7?
Have you considered Windows Easy Transfer?

Re: system migration tool for upgrade from vista to windows 7?
It somewhat depends on how your system is currently organised.
Ever since NT4, I've always partitioned my systems so C: contains only the OS and installed programs and D: has ALL my user data.
I've just installed Windows 7 Professsional on my T30 and I was just able to restore all the contents of D: straight back down again. If I had been installing on the existing drive I wouldn't have even needed to restore anything on D: but I had installed a new drive
After installing the various applications and doing any configuration wihin them they can then find their data again. For example, after installing Office, I went into Outlook, configured my E-Mail account and then just went into data management to select the pst I wanted.
I've never been overly keen on so called automated mechanisms to transfer systems, I'm always concerned that things will be missed. I much prefer to do it manually. It took me very little time to get my system back up and running again. I spent more time trying to find things in Control Panel etc. and altering the look and feel of W7 than I did restoring my data
