More questions about the t43 :D

#1 Post by americo24 » Tue Jan 19, 2010 9:51 pm

Okay I got My Ibm t43 (2668 G6u) about 2 weeks ago and It is the best laptop I have ever owned. So I had a few question so far.

1. H as there been a fix for the 2010 error for larger hard drives? (I was thinking about getting a 320gb)
2. I am going to buy a new battery this weekend from amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/ThinkPad-T40-Lapt ... 26&sr=8-11 ) does any one know the average battery life (you can name some experiences on battery life with things you did)
3. I am going to buy a 2gb pc 5300 stick for this machine, would it be better to get 2x1gb sticks or 1x2gb stick?

4. Bluetooth, I am having some problems with it (im not sure if its the fact that its bluetooth 1.0) but I can't get this machine to connect to my phone (samsung eternity) when it says enter a passcode nothing displays on my phone, its not a big problem but doing wireless transfering would be pretty neat (I dont want to buy a dongle)

Thanks in advance.

There is no fix for "2010 error" as of now, short of downgrading the BIOS which I wouldn't recommend.

Get a battery from eBay, Lenovo's Outlet or this forum's Marketplace, genuine new IBM/Lenovo batteries for T4x series are still widely available.

Not all T43s will boot with a 2GB stick, I'd highly recommend 2x1GB, because of dual-channel operation.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for your answer, may I ask what "dual channel operation" is?

Sorry I need to ask one more question, but what bios version does not give the 2010 error?

Versions 1.03 and older do not give out errors on most known drives from that time (mid-2005).

Having said that, you WILL lose proper support for the GPU and the fan WILL run erratically in 9 out of 10 cases.

In my book - and I've owned more T43/p machines than I'd care to count - this is NOT a good trade-off.

My $0.02 only...

Wow thanks Alot your a real helper, I still have a few more questions if you have time LOL

1. Is there anything wrong with the battery I posted? You suggested to get an ibm brand why?

2. Whats the average battery life with a 6 cell battery on max performance.

3. Is there any way I can do to increase the brightness higher than max settings?

Thanks : )

I've had nothing but bad experiences with third-party batteries. YMMV.

There is no such thing as "average run time"...almost everything depends on one's settings.

If you have LCD at "high" in BIOS and maxed out via software as well, there's nothing else to be done.

You can go into the ATi Catalyst Control Center and bump up the gamma and brightness. This may give you a headache, however. 8)

See my post at the end of this thread http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=84041 to see my experience with a never before used (but some years old) IBM 6-cell battery in my T43. Like ajkula66 says above, this is totally dependent on the settings, and might not even be comparable to another T4x. But it might give you a clue as to what you can expect.

Edit: I now noticed you said max performance. My settings are far from that. :-)

I actually tried what you said, (wasn't positive it was a joke) doen't help much and its more of a headache than anything. Anyways I am loving this Laptop it feels almost as good as my desktop

Desktop:
2.1 amd 64 dualcore
2gb ram
1tb 7200rpm Hard Drive
512mb video card
and a 17" display
xp/7/linux mint
Now I am just using this laptop for repair runs with my dad (I work on computers for a hobby) and this Ibm does the job

T43
2.0ghz single core
2gb ram (1x2gb)
64mb video card
80gb xx00 hard drive (not sure what rpm, it feels like a 7200 though)
running 7 maybe mint soon...

thanks alot for your help guys and is there any actual online store where I can buy a legit lenovo battery?
