X200 arrived today - 7548...VGP!?
After years of lurking / buying older generation TPs i finally gave up on waiting for the X210 and dropped a $grand on a brand new X200 from the US (ebay seller: newthinkpads, who i have had no problems with - or the product.....so far)
Thing is, I can't find any info or reference what-so-ever for the model number (7548-VGP).
p8800 2.66Ghz Core 2
4GB ram
320GB 7200rpm HD
LED backlit WXGA (bloody bright)
GPS
5150 (?) Ultraconnect / Wimax / 3G erricson / GPS / Bluetooth
4gb Turbo Memory
Cam / fingerprint scanner
9 cell
Windows 7 64 Pro
As you can see it's pretty much specced out to max for the series (minus SSD and 5300 obviously, though i personally prefer the camera tbh) - is this a corporate special requirement machine? Or are lenovo trying to get rid of all their older Intel chipset inventory and montevina stuff before calpella drops in the near future? Just curious.
That aside, i'm glad to find that build quality concerns have been overblown IMO - in comparison my X60 is much worse in the screen vulnerability department, and the machine feels stupidly solid for it's weight (minus battery) while the palm rest flex doesn't seem to be particular concern for my machine - and needless to say it flies.

According to some seller, X200 systems with P8800 and LED screen are only available through education channels and not available on the retail market. That's probably where your system comes from as well. However, I do find it weird that your system's model number is not listed on the lenovo website. You may want to contact them regarding this just to see what they say. Also, use your serial number to check whether you have a warranty with the system.

Are you sure that there are no two numbers on the bottom of your box? I ask because I had a similar problem with my T61. It was sold to me as 8895-WET and I was not able to locate the model on the Lenovo site. However it turned out that on the Lenovo site is is just 8895-CTO, which refers to models customized by customers. In my case it was some corporate customer I suppose. Try to look her for the warrany of your machine http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... -WARNTY#sw
To do that you will need just four digits of your model number (no letters) and serial number which is found on the bottom.

Indeed some CTO-based configurations don't appear on Lenovo's site.

Re: X200 arrived today - 7548...VGP!?
Thanks for the replies especially the heads up r.e warranty - after updating the lenovo toolbox it checked out as over a 1000 days left - which is a nice surprise as i thought there surely would be a catch with the machine somewhere since it was so cheap (other than having to ship it to the U.S in the event of a repair / returns job obviously).
I think it must be a CTO machine then, i've double checked and it's definately the only product number on the machine.
to conclude, if you've been looking for a bargain X200 purchase - IMO there isn't likely to be a much better time.

I don't think that you have to ship it to US for repair in the case of failure. The warranty service should be provided by Lenovo UK. (If the warranty is indeed international; but you should check that on the Lenovo site or calling Lenovo UK).
