Is the Thinkpad T43 bootable thru a USB port?

I think I have read that a usb stick can be made bootable, is that right? If you had a operating hard drive with Windows installed and mounted in a enclosure (like a Rocketfish) can you boot thru a usb port? Or could you update firmware on a hard drive that is connected thru a usb port and enclosure combo?

I have an external HDD (attached by USB) with a bootable recovery for my system and that works. So, I would imagine that if you had sufficient space on a memory stick then that would work equally as well.

Mine can boot from a USB device. Installed Ubuntu 9.10 in this way.

Press the blue Access button in your TP and then press F12 to select the booting device. One of the options should USB+HDD or similar (don't have my T43p at hand now)
