You can upgrade the CCFL model to a far better screen for around 200$ (plus lots of on-hand-work). The led model can not be upgraded.

Is there any other way to recognize LCD and LED screen when the two x200 next to each other WITHOUT checking its spec on website?
Thanks

LED backlight (LCD screen with LED backlight is still a LCD screen, btw) is supposed to be superior to CCFL backlight (with the same panel, good backlight + poor panel = poor screen). If the two of them are sitting next to each other, you should notice the one with LED backlight has darker black and brighter white (in this case, why bother what backlight it uses? ust pick the one with the a better screen!). It's harder to verify a seller's claim that the X200 he is selling you has LED backlight, when you don't have another one to compared to.

Just did some research on the subject (just type "X200 AFFS" on Google), that is indeed a night and day difference. The AFFS panel with CCFL backlight definitely looks better than stock panel with whatever backlight. These AFFS screens are selling on taobao.com (China's eBay) for much lower prices and they are X200-install-friendly. Of course you need someone from China to bring you one.

The problem is, I want to get one of those newer X200 with P8800 (2.66Ghz) CPU, but it seems to me that ALL P8800-equipped X200 come with LED backlit screen. Have anyone seen any P8800-equipped X200 with CCFL screen?

Just to answer myself, I found that on Lenovo Japan website, P8800 and LED backlit screen are standard options, and they can configure X200 with P8800 and CCFL backlit screen (so can do the AFFS LCD mod). I wish we can do the same here in the US.

My X200 with LED backlight has a really bad screen flickering problem, often the screen flickers terribly, breaks up shows weird grey checkered patterns, or lines. I believe related to the ribbon cable, as the thinklight is also kaput unless I squeeze on the bezel right underneath it.

I have found a ribbon cable for the LED backlit screen, it is about $35. I figure if I am going to spend that much and take the time to dissassemble my laptop, might as well go all the way and get one of those slick IPS screens as well. Is there really going to be a problem or is it possible to get one for the LED model, any advice appreciated, thanks.

[OT]My GF has broken my X200's thinklight (she dropped it ACCIDENTALLY on the floor from the couch TWICE during ONE HOUR)

I didn't mind, cause I don't use thinklight very often
I've disassembled the LCD bezel recently, to add camera. It doesn't work :(
So I removed LCD screen to check what's wrong with the LCD cable.
And my LCD is LED type... I can't exchange it for AFFS I've been craving for, and I've to replace LCD cable.
I've also noticed that backlight regulation doesn't work anymore...

FML! [/OT]

BTW: Is it possible to swap the x200's LED WXGA with WXGA+ without changing the lid etc? I need new cable and screen, and what else?
