What cable should I used to connect my computer to a cable modem? I use a router now. I want to connect my computer to my cable modem directly. I used the cable that connect my modem to router and another cable connected my computer to the router, but they both didn't work. What cable should I used to connect my computer to a cable modem?

Re: modem
You would use a standard cable, so if it is not working at this point, it is unlikely to be a cable problem. Check your TCP/IP settings. If there is not a GUI network tool in your linux, then you need to use the command line.

Re: modem
If DHCP is provided by the router, then you need to change settings in the modem. You might try setting the modem back to factory defaults (there is usually a pinhole to do this), then connect the modem to your computer and access it through the web interface. You will need to know what the web interface is, it should be something like http://192.168.0.1 You can probably get this information from the modem manufacturer's support website, by Googling your modem make and model number. Once in the web interface you can check and change your modem settings there.
