Buying a used T61p - Hints?
Buying a used T61p - Hints?
Just found an announcement for the following machine:
Product: ThinkPad T61p 6460-6XG [change]
Operating system: All [change]
Original description: T7500(2.2GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1920x1200 LCD, 256MB nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Ultimate 32
The laptop is still under warranty, but comes with a broken battery (not rechargeable says the owner)
The price is 900 Euro about 1200 US dollar
Despite I am not really interested in Widescreen displays, and I am currently looking for something with a 1400x1050 14' screen, even older, this looks interesting. Additional weights and dimension wouldn't be an issue to me, not travelling so much as before now.
Any opinion suggestion hint are appreciated,
thanks
Annalisa

the same I am doing with my previous computers since I got the first oneFredGarvin wrote:What are you going to be doing with it?
I use pc both for my job and for my pleasure, (no computer games at all, anyway)
yes, probably I don't need all that power, but surely I don't exploit neither the power of the T41p I am using now.
but I like very high screen resolution, and a desktop replacement would be interesting to me at the moment.
anyway, I have just discovered it suffers from the "shifted on the right LCD", and I don't think I could stand it.

Your best bet is staying as far away from the entire T61/p generation, as far as possible.
The only exception are the machines with Intel integrated graphics.
With that said, newer T400/500 and W500 are much better machines for not that much more money...
My $0.02 only...

thanks George, that's the kind of information I needed.ajkula66 wrote:Your best bet is staying as far away from the entire T61/p generation, as far as possible.

Hence, for a good and cheap successor for a T41p I understand is better to look at the T60 series..
