X301 and Bios Version 3.09-1.05

#1 Post by Edmond Dantes » Sun Jan 24, 2010 12:52 pm

Hello everyone,

I've seen that a new Bios version (3.09-1.05) for X301 is now available:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70462

As I'm about buying an external Monitor, which very likely will be a Full HD one, I'm interested in this update, which allows the use of external monitors with resolution 1600x900.

Has somebody already updated to this new version? Are there any troubles?

Thank-you and Regards

Edmond

I am typing this on an X301 connected to a Samsung SyncMaster 2033sw LCD at 1600x900 via a displayport cable, and am running that BIOS. Works great.

Sorry, another question.

The summary of changes says "(New) Added support for 1600x900 screen resolution on an external monitor".
Does this mean that oder resolutions (for example 1920x1080) are already supported by previous releases of the Bios (e.g. 3.07) and that this new release "only" adds the 1600x900 one?

Btw: Is someone using the X301 with an external Monitor set on full HD resolution?

Thank-you and Best Regards

Whatever is supported on your current BIOS will be supported on a later BIOS. This is true across every PC, motherboard, and laptop manufacturer in the world. I don't recall ever seeing a manufacturer take functionality away with a BIOS update. Nobody would flash it if that were a common practice.

This was pretty clear to me.
I was only wondering if this Bios version adds only the res. 1600x900, which was for some reason missing in the previous versions, or all the resolutions above the native laptop res. of 1440x900.
In this second case, I'd need to update as I intend to use a full HD external monitor; otherwise I don't have to.

It just added 1600x900, but there were higher resolutions available before the BIOS change. What resolution specifically are you looking for?

I'm about buying a Samsung Syncmaster 2494HS, which is 1920×1080 (full-HD).

Many thanks.

The displayport DVI cable for the X301 supports -
DisplayPort to Single-Link DVI-D Monitor Cable (45J7915)

* Support for attaching a single-link DVI-D digital-only monitor
* 1920 x 1200 WUXGA maximum resolution
o Includes 1080p HD (1920 x 1080) resolution

The X301 itself supports a Max resolution (with max video RAM): 2048x1536
