After the GPU problem with my T40, I purchased a motherboard on eBay. The seller stated that there was a "BIOS password which doesn't affect functionality" Apparently, he thought this motherboard would be used as a paperweight.
After swapping the screen and keyboard over (it was the motherboard (from a T41) and the bottom case/keyboard bezel) I booted up and I got the power on password prompt. After trying the basics, I gave up.
1 Question, though, before I tear the motherboard back out and send it back.
Is there a chip that stores the password? If so, could I just solder on the chip from my T40 (which has no passwords set)?
Any other ways of getting around this?
Thanks,
Nick
EDIT: The password icon has the padlock with what looks like a monitor...

That machine has an Admin password set. We don't allow discussions on the forum on how to defeat it.

Just throwing it out there, The BGA chip that stores the password checks the motherboard it is attatched to, and if it changes it locks. There is no feasable way to remove the password.
