Energy Star Missing for X200 on Windows 7 64bit (noisy fan)?
Just upgrade X200 from Vista x64 to Win 7 x64.
Previously: Vista x64, under Power option (of Power Management) - my favorite is to use 'Energy Star' option.
It is quiet, the fan noise is barely audible.
Now: in Windows 7 x64, under Power option (of Power Management) - 'Energy Star' option is missing.
I use 'Maximum power saver"
The fan noise is really audible (noisy).
Actually, what I like about 'Energy Star' option is not just being quiet, but also the machine is cool, and I am assured of it being environment friendly.
Anyone got 'Energy Star' option under Windows 7 x64?

No one is interested if Thinkpads Win 7 is configured with lowest energy consumption?
It suppose to prolong the lifespan of Thinkpads as well.

Re: Energy Star Missing for X200 on Windows 7 64bit (noisy fan)?
I am interested in knowing about this. I use Ubuntu 9.10 64bit purely because WindowsXP was so bad at keeping my x200s (with SSD) cool and quiet. I am thinking of switching from Ubuntu to Windows 7 Pro 64bit (for business reasons) but I want to be sure my x200s will still have the power-netbook feel and not sound like my T60p.
I'm also interested in shutdown speeds (non-hibernate). My Ubuntu x200s is soooo quick to shutdown, but WindowsXP takes forever. Do you have any opinion on this ?

Don't have anything really to compare it with, but my X200s with SSD etc runs nice and cool. I tend to run mine using the power source optimised power plan, with either max or adaptive CPU speed when running on mains.

Thanks ansible212. Does it thrash the fan every so often to keep it cool on those settings ?

Fan only comes on under load (e.g. playing 1080p HD video)... otherwise it's pretty much silent (running Office apps, Internet, Lightroom).

Re: Energy Star Missing for X200 on Windows 7 64bit (noisy fan)?
I do not own a X200 but I can relate to the disappointment of finding out, after I did a clean install of Windows 7 X64, that the Energy Start setting in Power Manager was missing. I found the default settings of the energy star plan perfect for how I use my laptop. Is the Energy Star profile only available in Lenovo preloads? Lenovo should add the profile in the PM drivers and re-enable the left click functionality for the Power Manger button in the task bar. There are absolutely no benefits to be found in the new "Windows 7 remix" of the PM button!!!
