T410 Rescue and Recovery Media (win pro 64)

#1 Post by shaibu » Tue Jan 26, 2010 6:44 pm

Hi All, just bought a T410 Win pro 64 and created the rescue media on a USB drive and the system will not recognize it. Lenovo has no media in stock. If anyone has a copy of the media I can copy please let me know. Located in Toronto, Canada.

thanks!

What's the deal with this? Lenovo doesn't ship rescue & recovery media with new Thinkpads? I know that there's a hidden partition on the hard drive that allows for recovery, but what happens if I wanted to upgrade the hard drive?

It was like that for a loooong time now. You have at least a couple of options. First, and this seems to be the best way, is to burn your own copies. A tool for that comes preinstalled.

You could also clone the drive to a new one. The procedure was repeated many times here on the forum.

Huh. My last Thinkpad was an X31 - I guess a lot's changed in the past six years.

I created the media via the tool, but the disks got corrupted and are unusable. I find cloning never works perfectly.

If anyone can help if would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance!

Done right, cloning works very well.

You have another option, but it requires a lot of time.

You may use Rescue & Recovery to wipe your hard drive and re-install the OS, just as your new ThinkPad came out of the box. That activates the "burn your own disks" option again, since it's a one time use application. Now you are ready to burn the discs. Reload all software and the backup you have (hopefully) of your data.

Cheers...

Why didn't you burn a set of disks?

HI all, I tried burning a set of disks but they are corrupted. I also tried wipe the drive and reinstall the OS, but it somehow still thought that I had already created the media so it would not let me, I assume it writes that data to the pre-desktop area.

If anyone has a set of disks I could copy please let me know.
thanks
