T400 wifi access issue

#1 Post by speedbump » Wed Jan 27, 2010 1:30 pm

New T400 here with Windows 7 64 bit pro and Intel 5300 wifi... For some strange reason ThinkVantage access connections is not seeing all available networks... It sees the saved profiles NP, however when there is no saved profile, the network does not show (NP on the T60p, and T60 we also have, just the T400).

We can find these 'invisible to TV access connections' networks by going through ctl panel / networking etc., however we shouldn't. have to do this...

I'm handling this remotely as it's my son's computer and he is at university... his access connections is version 5.42.

Any ideas?

Other than this inconvenience, he is very satisfied with the T400, and the hi nit screen...

T60p 20078DU, and T60 195144U... I went Dell, and came back to black.

The current AC release for Win 7 is v5.50, and WiFi network visibility is one of the stated issues addressed in that release.

Cheers,

Thanks Bill,

Apparently 5.50 is not showing as an available update using the 'update my system' utility, and looking at the Lenovo update website I'm not sure 5.50 actually does address network visibility issues...

"Version 5.50

(New) Added support for ThinkPad T410, T510, X100e, Edge 13" and E30.
(New) Added support for Qualcomm Gobi2000™.
(New) Added support for Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6200.
(New) Added support for Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300.
(New) Added support for Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250.
(New) Added support for Telestra as Wireless WAN service provider on Ericsson HSDPA Wireless adapter.
(Fix) Changed name from Intel® WiFi Link 1000 to Intel® Centrino Wireless-N 1000.
(Fix) Fixed for Microsoft WER 1454627032.
(Fix) Fixed and issue where Access Connections' speed might come down when Access Connections was co-existing with Microsoft Essential."

Has anyone here with a T400, Win 7 Pro 64 bit, and Intel 5300 manually downloaded this version? I'd hate to mess him up by overriding the update utility with a non applicable version of AC. Maybe I'm putting too much faith in the upgrade utility?

It takes a while (especially at this time of year) for Lenovo to put new drivers onto the System Update server. IBM used to be the same with their software installer (etc) utilities.

I note that the version now on-line is v5.50 02..... the earlier v5.50 01 release had a reference to the WiFi network find issue in the updates list, but that seems to have been replaced by the Microsoft WER nnnnnnn reference. I can't match the WER number to anything specific, so I don't now what it was about, but it is quite probably the same thing.

I have AC v5.50 01 running on a T400 with a 5300 under Win 7 Ultimate x64 and it works fine for me. I didn't have a issue with "seeing " WiFi networks under v5.42, so I can't say whether v5.50 is any better/worse in that respect.

Cheers,

Bill B.
