Odd problem with X4 Ultrabase & an X40

Hi Thinkpadders!

I've got a X4 ultrabase which is working fine with my X41. DVD/CDRW working ok, all USB ports also. With my X41 I can read several DVDs and CDs, but with my X40 I can't. I hear the drive spinning and see the light blinks, but the media won't be read or mounted.

Both Xs have Ubuntu 9.10 with the latest updates.

I'm not so surprised since this X40 I bought came in deplorable state. So I'm quite sure the problem lies in the X40, but where? Any hint where I should start looking?

You might want to take a look at the UltraBase port on the X40 to see if any of the contacts are damaged, dirty, or missing. If everything looks clean and in good shape, the problem might be with the port's connection to the motherboard.

Thanks Jamiphar for the reply. I'll take a closer look but I'm on holidays now & I don't have my X40 with me.

The weird thing is that with the X40, USB ports work, power works and the drive's green light also shows activity. I can also hear the unit spinning, but it won't mount any media. I though before that the dock connector in my X40 may be broken, but it's weird that some functions work and others not...
