T60 is dead - nothing on the screen @ power up
Hi there,
I'm pretty frustrated and hope that someone can help me. Bought this laptop for my brother hoping he will get a good 5 years out of it for College. The laptop died after the extended warranty ran out on 11/09. It will cost up to $585 to send it to Lenovo for repair.
Here's what our T60 is doing. When you power it on just the power (looks like a letter z with a circle) and the battery light comes on, that's it nothing else on the screen. We can't even tell if it's booting up properly. We are running 2GB Ram with XP OS.
Can anyone tell me where to begin? My brother said that all he did was install the windows updates for the PC. Is this a common issue with the T60? Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks!

I think you might have a dead mobo. There is a member on here that has repaired a few of my mobo and for less than what lenovo wants. His username is Brad. He should be able to help you with this. one thing to try though is see if you can connect an external monitor and see if you get an image.

Re: T60 is dead - nothing on the screen @ power up
Hi Diaz,
Thank you for the reply. I was hoping that it would not be the mobo. $165 for a new mobo (IBM ATI Mobility Radeon X1300) and $120 in labor (2hrs) from a local pc shop. Will try Brad as you have suggested.
I have disconnected the HD, CD-Rom drive, reseated the ram & made sure all connections are good. I have even connected the latop to an external monitor and nothing shows up on the external monitor. When connecting to an a/c power supply the cooling fan turns on for a few sec. and stopped.
I do not think that there's anything else that I can do.

You can buy a motherboard on eBay or you might want to post over in the marketplace forum to see if anyone's got an extra, then replace it yourself. You can probably get a board for less than $200. What's your machine type? Hit the service and support site. It shows how to do it.kanukie wrote:I do not think that there's anything else that I can do.

Just to make absolutely sure, did you press Fn/F7 at least three times, to run through all possible combinations?
