I don't think it's either. The lower case "r" looks somewhat unique to me and doesn't seem to match either font.

Hmm, it does look a bit different. If I had to guess, though, it's Consolas antialiased differently.GomJabbar wrote:I don't think it's either. The lower case "r" looks somewhat unique to me and doesn't seem to match either font.
Take a look at this. word in top right is cropped form the original image, word below it and to its right is written in Windows 7 Notepad using Consolas 11. Second image is 3x pixel-for-pixel zoom.

If anything, the lowercase A is giving me doubts.
It's not Lucida Sans or Courier or Monaco; the lowercase G is different.

If you look at the letter "y", it's consistently weaker in appearance.
I'd say that was written with a typewriter, probably an old IBM Selectrix with the 'golf ball'.
To me the font looks like 'Courier New'.

If it was a scanned copy of a paper document that would really just blow my mind!RealBlackStuff wrote:If you look at the letter "y", it's consistently weaker in appearance.

Yup -- it's difficult to AA because it's all angled lines. The lowercase W is similar for the same reason.RealBlackStuff wrote:If you look at the letter "y", it's consistently weaker in appearance.
Check the lowercase G.RealBlackStuff wrote:To me the font looks like 'Courier New'.

On second thought, I'm almost convinced it is "Andale Mono".

The lowercase I in Andalé Mono doesn't have a serif along the bottom... the sample text does. Serifs on the lowercase L are different too.RealBlackStuff wrote:On second thought, I'm almost convinced it is "Andale Mono".

Thanks Ray.
Also if anyone is running Linux you may want to add this tiny program called Specimen Font Previewer. I find it a nifty little program

Re: what kind of font is this?
sorry folks, i've not been receiving updates on this thread and i forgot to check manually.
- it's not a scanned piece of paper, someone sent me that font in the body of an email (is there a way to see what font it is in the header of the email?)
- ray, i will check your links, thanks

Re: what kind of font is this?
i should also say that my interest in this font comes from wanting to use the same font i have on my linux (debian) machine's terminal interface on my thunderbird (XP) email client. this email simply reminded me of that style font though now that i compare it, it's not exactly the same.
Re: what kind of font is this?
About a year ago my brother was showing me a book of fonts he bought that had (it seemed) almost every font imaginable. You might be able to find such a book in your local public library. Sorry that I am not able to search my brother's book of fonts for you.

Re: what kind of font is this?
Yes. If it is HTML email just check the source of the message and it should be specified there, probably using font-family: name or <font face="name">. Method for checking the source is going to depend on your client. If it's not HTML email, that's simply whichever font is specified in your email client's configuration for monospaced text.alfio wrote:- it's not a scanned piece of paper, someone sent me that font in the body of an email (is there a way to see what font it is in the header of the email?)
