#1 Post by msteudel » Sat Jan 30, 2010 12:05 am

Why is it that the t410 only allows up to 4gb RAM?

It doesn't. At least 8GB will be possible.

The tech specs say it just goes up to 4, where did you find that it goes up to 8?

I just learned not to believe their tech specs. There is no reason whatsoever for the chipset to be limited to 4GB, when older chipsets support more.

That means only up to 4GB can be configured when ordering. People have been able to install 8GB ram onto their thinkpads since many generations ago.

No. :BAAAD!:

The *61 Thinkpads were the first that were able to support accessible 8GB memory configrations and they are not many generations ago!

They were allowing you to configure up to 8GB last week when I was ordering... What happened to that?

I just received my T410, and it was only allowing configuring up to 4GB when ordering. I removed the 2 2GB DIMMS and replaced with 2 4GB DIMMS and now i've got 8GB running fine. one DIMM is accessible under an easily removed bottom cover (nice), the other one is hidden under the keyboard (a pain.)

Where did you order your 2 x 4GB DIMMS from? Did you check compatibility?

What do you think of the T410? Mine's still on order.
