Order X100e with XP?

#1 Post by elray » Sun Jan 31, 2010 2:15 pm

Numerous articles claim the X100 is available with XP Home.
The Lenovo web site appears to be void of any such option.
Has anyone ordered one so configured? Is there a special part number? Link?

I had a quick search and couldn't one with XP sold as new/originall had XP Home
I think if you wanted XP on X100e (and why would'nt you?), you'd have to buy a boxed copy... Blimey, that just reminds me, I've still got a boxed copy of Windows 95 still in seal wrap, and Windows 2000 Professional!!! (also got XP, Vista and 7, and a boxed copy of Office XP) :D but back to topic, no, I don't think one was ever sold with any version of XP.

If you went with Win 7 Pro, you'd have the right to downgrade to XP Pro, but you'd need the media to install it.

And Ultimate edition as well. If you chosen that path then just get an OEM copy or the one that come with previous computer, and use its product key (according to Microsoft Downgrade right)

There seems to be a disconnect between the press info and the product they deliver. Perhaps, in time, the secret detail will be unveiled. I'm sure there are political, if not technical, reasons to hide the XP option.

While I know there is always a way to load some form of XP, presuming drivers exist and can be found, I was really hoping to order it with XP factory-loaded, so as to allow for drop-shipping to our [large] family members, and leave them with a mail-order warranty relationship. I don't mind doing the work, but logistics, volumes and time become a pain for all involved.

That said, there is are XP Home & Pro recovery sets #76Y1546 and 58Y1617.

I'll see if I can order one.

There is an amazing number of posts out there that go like: "I have XP Home and I need to do some real work"
Don't ever buy Windows HOME anything. It is a waste of time and a 6-lane highway to grief. At least get XP Pro, and now, preferably Windows 7 Pro. ... JDH

I agree with JDH, be sure to avoid home & get XP Pro or Win7 Pro.

I went out today and saw x100e does come with XP
Actually there are 2 versions of X100e

1. 160G HDD, 1G RAM, without Bluetooth, come with XP (only available in white)
2. 250G HDD, 2G RAM, with Bluetooth, come with W7

You will be looking US$60-$70 cheaper with XP on it.

My experience with Windows "Home" OS's
.Windows XP Home sucks, a bit rubbish really!
.Windows Vista Home Premium sucks, crashes all the time!
.Windows 7 Home Premium probably does suck

Always go for the better, higher end editions, ie for XP, go for XP Pro (not Media Centre or Home) and with Vista opt for Business or Ultimate rather than Home or Home Premium. I have Vista Ultimate and I couldn't be more glad that I didn't go for Home Premium!!
