UMTS900 WWAN mini-pci-e card
UMTS900 WWAN mini-pci-e card
Is there such thing as UMTS/3G WWAN card for mini pci-e, that supports 900Mhz UMTS? Could a 3G dongle be modded inside a X60 or X61?

I think I found one...
Sierra MC8792V

Wonder why it is only directed to Australian market..

Re: UMTS900 WWAN mini-pci-e card
The Huawei EM770W also covers the 900MHz band as well as 850/1900/2100MHz - It is currently only available from one HK eBay seller: vk138168.
To date I have never come across a Sierra Wireless MC8792V or the MC8795V (which is Quad band - 850/900/1900/2100MHz) and do not know of any devices that use them.
The new Qualcomm Gobi 2000 covers 5 UMTS bands (800/850/900/1900/2100 MHz) and is available installed in the new Lenovo notebook X100e - FRU: 60Y3183. - (HP's Gobi 2000 version is the un2420)
To use any of these modules, the BIOS of the X60/61 will need to be modified as per post: x6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/04)[*MUST* read msg 1]
Hope this helps a little

Re: UMTS900 WWAN mini-pci-e card
Thanks for the info!!. The seller only says it supports 850/1900/2100. But Huawei page says also UMTS900.

Re: UMTS900 WWAN mini-pci-e card
Will the EM770W card work with a X60? Will it recognize the simcard etc?

Re: UMTS900 WWAN mini-pci-e card
As per my previous post - The BIOS will probably need to be modified to accept non-whitelisted WWAN cards and Pin20 may also need to be taped over - (Please refer to: x6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/04)[*MUST* read msg 1])Will the EM770W card work with a X60?
I currently have an EM770 working in my T60p - (BIOS mod & pin20 taped) - Works great with Huawei's generic client software: "Mobile Partner" -

Re: UMTS900 WWAN mini-pci-e card
Could a simcard slot be soldered onto X60 or X61?

Or would it be possible to use external simcard reader for using WWAN? I know you also have to have two mini-pci-e slot but still.

Re: UMTS900 WWAN mini-pci-e card
Will the EM770W card work with X60 antennas? My X60's sierra card has only one antenna slot with one attached cable on it. The EM770W apparently has two antenna slots.

Re: UMTS900 WWAN mini-pci-e card
Take a look at this link: No WWAN Antenna in my X61s, how do i get one? - Although related to an X61s, it may contain some useful info
