WTB: 19" and over LCD Monitor FOUND FOUND FOUND

#1 Post by emeraldgirl08 » Thu Feb 04, 2010 6:54 pm

I'm looking for an external LCD monitor that I would like to use with my T400. I'm interested in a widescreen preferably in decent shape. I want to use this for viewing my documents side-by-side and also for the occasional videos. I can't budget anything over $80 so this is going to be a used LCD that maybe someone wouldn't mind selling. I'm not sure how much shipping would cost but we can work that out. TIA.

Manual bump... I am looking on Fleabay for that one deal...

Alas there is not one yet. I realize that shipping alone is expensive but I am also willing to trade any of the parts I have listed on my Marketplace thread for partial compensation... plus whatever $$$ is agreed upon.

I'm definitely not very knowledgeable about monitors, but I'll add my $0.02 anyway. :D

I was searching for a 19" monitor last year and noticed that the 18" and 19" monitors have the same resolution. But at 20" almost all were UXGA+. These were non-widescreen. Also, you might want to consider whether its important to have a IPS panel or not.

My personal opinion is that its generally better to buy monitors locally because of the shipping cost and risk of shipping damage. Years ago, I bought a 17" IBM CRT. It took the seller THREE tries before I finally received a monitor that wasn't damaged in transit. You just don't know how well a seller is going to pack it.

That being said, here's what I found on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0555581920
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0233995167

I think Dell 1800FP UltraSharp monitors are IPS... but you should probably verify that. Combined shipping is cheap too if you want more than one.

Good luck!

Thanks for the links guys :thumbs-UP:

I missed one of the auctions and I was actually bidding on an Samsung 19" widescreen that has a resolution similar to my T400 (1440X900). I've grown to like the the resolution and feel somewhat shocked when I go back to a standard XGA resolution. Someone gave a good description of the difference and I agree. One can almost count all the pixels on the screen when going back to XGA.

My Dad would love one of those XGA monitors for sure :)

The bidding escalated at the last minute and the price that ended the bid was just $1 over what I was bidding. Coincidence??? It's a little fishy :? So I'm in for a widescreen and I found a tape measure and found that 19-20" would be fine for what I need. The bigger one's are much too expensive for my purse strings right now. I'll definitely get me another 4:3 when I get my flexview T60P one of these days 8)

Serious business for a Thinkpadder girl :)

I did get some things done in the meantime: fixed my R51e so I'm keeping it, got the 3com working on my Dads 600X, got a Chicony T61KB from Lenovo for my T400 (thanks Craig!<<customer service rep), and got a good grade on my Geology test :))

Who say's a girl can't have fun??? :P

Yes, they are. Wikipedia has a very good resource to tell which panel type a Dell monitor has...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell_monitors

emeraldgirl08, if you can stretch your budget a bit further, you might want to keep an eye on the Dell outlet monitor page (http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSale ... =ALL&s=dfb). Those are some pretty good prices, and Dell makes a good monitor (I have three 2007FPs on my desk).

I just saw a Dell 2000FP go by. It was an Ultrasharp 1600X1200 20inch screen.

I'm kicking myself for that! I was going to get it but I couldn't find a FPS in some specs I tried to quickly peruse.

I have two questions:

1) Will there be any issues if I hook up an external to my T400 and the ext. monitor is a 4:3 screen type?

2) I need a decent FPS. At what number do you guys see ghosting?

Found me a monitor. $62 shipped w/ no stuck/dead pixels, 19 inches @ 1440X900 resolution, and the credibility of an established person. Thanks Ted!

I too just came across an excellent deal. It's the 20" 1600x1200 HP LP2065, for $111 shipped on Overstock.com. Getting it through Bing or certain credit cards will give you 5% or more discount. This monitor uses either IPS or A-MVA, i.e. much better than TN screens. It has USB ports, and can be rotated into portrait mode.

emeraldgirl08, I realize that you just bought a 19" 1440x900 LCD, but if you end up not liking it, this HP would be a excellent alternative.

Thanks for the additional info guys. This will be my first monitor so we'll see how this goes. I do plan on upgrading in the future for a 22" or 24" IPS-type screen. It seems Dell makes some nice LCD's these days.
