T60 and Win 7, now I can't burn DVDs!

#1 Post by jetmn » Tue Feb 09, 2010 4:53 pm

I have a T60 (T2500, 4GB). I switched to Win 7 and now I can't burn DVDs. I was trying to install Nero and it kept screwing up on me. I took everything out I could find. I ran the cleansweep tool that is available, cleaned the registry of anything that said Nero and all files are gone off the computer. I now got Roxio 2010 and installed it, but it hangs up right away when trying to burn a DVD.

Anyone else with Win7 having issues burning DVD's? Mine worked fine with Vista on it.

Did you try running PC-Doctor or System Toolbox if you've done your updates to see if that tells you anything? Does it burn anything else and/or work in explorer?

Same problem with me. I was told later from a Best Buy geek kid that many of the new DVD disks are not compatible with older hardware, such as the T60 burners and others.

After forking over $70.00 bucks for a USB burner, everything works now. Maybe more of that DRM crapola involved with the new type discs?

I don't think that is the problem, it is the same spindle of disks that I was using before. Roxio doesn't even get to the burning part, it locks up when preparing to burn.

I checked system update, there were a couple of new ones on there, nothing that seemed like it should make a difference, but I am installing them now. I'll give PC-Doctor a shot after this.

If you have access to a different installation (Vista/XP), I would try to see first if it burns fine in that OS. You may even swap your DVD burner into any other T4x/T6x/R6x machine to try it out. These DVD burners unfortunately do tend to fail more than you would expect.

i too was not able to get Roxio to work on my t61, but there was an update that fixed all that for me. I was using Creator 2009, but am not having any problems with it now. Have you by any chance used the built in Windows 7 DVD burner?
