X31 - Heat on rear of screen lid, what is it?

#1 Post by edward700 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:07 pm

Just a quickie...

I notice a fair amount of heat on the right hand side of the LCD lid (outside casing), at the bottom. It feels pretty hot to touch, and only when running on AC as far as I can tell.

What is it and is it normal?!

Thanks =)

I've noticed the same thing with the X31s I've worked on. I would say the most likely source of the heat is the CCFL inverter (located at the bottom right of the LCD lid) which has a transformer that can get pretty warm. Do you have your screen set differently for when the laptop is on AC and when it is running off the battery? If so, then the brighter screen setting on AC is probably the cause of the increased heat.

As long as it's not getting too hot to touch, I would say it's normal behavior.
