Ram Question
Hey guys
I'm looking to upgrade my Ram. I was wondering if you guys could help me out.
x60s 1704-69U with 1gb of ram (1 stick, 1 open slot)
I'm a little confused with all the specs of different rams and such. I already ordered the wrong one ram once before (ordered desktop ram not notebook ram).
Will one of these work for my 60s?
Crucial 2GB 256Mx64PC2-5300 CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory
Corsair VS2GSDS667D2 ValueSelect 2 GB PC2-5300 667 MHz 200-PIN DDR2 CL5 SODIMM Laptop Memory
I found these on amazon, typing in "notebook ram 2gb 5300" ... if you want to look at the full specs (i have a feeling that i'm not allowed to post links that show prices and things like that)
Thanks! =)

Re: Ram Question
The Crucial will work. Stay away from Corsair (or any other manufacturer) value RAM on a Thinkpad.

Re: Ram Question
thank you..! =)
Re: Ram Question
Any DDR2 667MHz SDRAM (also known as "PC5300" or "PC2-5300") SODIMM will work just fine. It's like buying salt! Any non-defective memory strip that has the proper specs will work.

I've used a number of PC5300 laptop memory sticks from various manufacturers in thinkpads, paired or mixed 512MB, 1GB and 2GB. I've seen no problem at all, unless one is defective (often due to visible broken chips).
Core 2 Duo T7600, 3GB DDR2-667 RAM, Main 7K320 320GB 7200RPM + Ultrabay 320GB 5400RPM, ATI FireGL V5250, 15" IPS UXGA, DVDRW, Bluetooth, Atheros ABGN, NMB Keyboard, Fingerprint, Win7 Pro X86 + Vista 64-bit SP2, Advanced Dock.
Re: Ram Question
I too have an x60s 1704 with 1GB.
Both slots are occupied, with 512MB modules.
Can I put 2GB e.g.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_nos ... 190&fsc=-1
in the free slot and end up with 2.5GB total?
There is a lot of PC motherboards with which one cannot do that, or not without mysterious crashes, as I well know
Would 2 x 2GB give me the usual 3.5GB (WinXP)?

Re: Ram Question
Yes, 2GB + 512KB should work.peter-h wrote:I too have an x60s 1704 with 1GB.

There is a 3GB limit on the X60 due to the hardware used. 2x2GB works (I have this on my X60), but you will see a max of 3GB in any OS.

I'll second this.crazyfrog wrote: I've used a number of PC5300 laptop memory sticks from various manufacturers in thinkpads, paired or mixed 512MB, 1GB and 2GB. I've seen no problem at all, unless one is defective (often due to visible broken chips).
It's also worth noting that every single time I've had faulty RAM (four times, twice with Apple computers, twice with ThinkPads) the culprit has been Hynix memory. Only anecdotal evidence, sure, but it's enough to make me avoid them like the plague.
That said, just run memtest86+ on whatever you get. If it passes, you're all set.

Many thanks. I will plug in the two 2GB modules and will report if I don't see 3GB. No news = good news
BTW the battery life with the Intel 80GB SSD and the extended battery and everything running on max is a measured 5hrs... not bad.
