ServiceV002 partition unrecognized after Windows 7 Ult. upgd

#1 Post by x420actionx » Wed Feb 10, 2010 5:51 pm

Hi All,

I recently upgraded my t61 from Vista Ultimate to 7 Ultimate, and after everything was said and done, I noticed that the recovery partition was no longer visible. I am able to see the drive when using "disk management" though it shows no letter assigned to it and it is described as "healthy (Recovery Partition)". I know most people get rid of the partition but I personally find it useful and would very much like it work like it used to, as I am no longer able to access the predesktop recovery area during reboot.

I want to find out if there is a way for the computer to recognize, access and assign a drive letter to the recovery partition. I thought having the latest version of Rescue and Recovery would help but it didn't change anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You can try pressing F11 at boot time, but I suspect the MBR has been changed by the Windows 7 bootloader and you are out of luck - at least until (if and when) there is a Windows 7 - Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair disk.

So if there is a Rescue and Recovery repair diskette made for Windows 7, then I can most likely fix/correct my partition problem?

Thank you for your reply.

Most likely.

I believe if you apply the current appropriate Rescue and Recovery repair diskette for Vista or XP, you could boot Rescue and Recovery again, but you would no longer be able to boot Windows 7.

If you burned a Rescue Media CD, you could boot that into Rescue and Recovery. Too late to burn one now however.

have you tried using the Vista R&R to reinstall to out of box state, then delete only the Vista partion, then install W7? let us know how that works.
