6 cell battery for T510?

My new T510 arrived today with it's ugly, horribly bulbous 9 cell battery.

I knew to expect it, as it was my only choice. For those of you with new 510's, do you have a 6 cell battery? On the start page where one chooses their machine to configure, there are three choices.

1) ThinkPad T510 with integrated graphics
2) Enhanced ThinkPad T510 with integrated graphics
3) Elite ThinkPad T510 with discrete graphics

I chose number three, as it's the only one with discrete graphics. And the only one (at the time I placed the order) that offered no choices, but a single 9 cell battery. Thus I ordered with the idea in mind that I would place a seperate order for a 6 cell battery (since it was a choice on the other two).

Today when I called to place that order, with the FRU number in hand, I was told that there is no such thing. When I asked then why does it appear on the other two choices, I was given what as of late, has been the standard response... uh...

So I thought I would post here to see if anyone has a 6 cell equipped T510. Please check in if you do.

There's no less than 6 part numbers for a T510 6 cell. I'm assuming they represent different manufacturers?

I had looked up the FRU, but could not find the link to order, nor anyone at Lenovo who could supply that info.

Fortunately the one that was ok to order, is the one that I need. So, I've placed the order and we will see just how long it takes for them to obtain one to ship to me.

The 6-cell battery sits flush with the T510 and does not stick out. It looks very nice. All in all I am very pleased with the T510. The keyboard is rock solid (no flex), the fan is very quiet, the screen is good after I calibrated it with Spyder 3 Pro, the bundled Lenovo tools are actually very nice, and there was close to no bloatware.

I wish that Lenovo USA was as professional and efficient as Lenovo in Sweden.

I too looked up that same part number as well as the FRU number and contacted Lenovo USA and they claim they have no knowledge or ability to order the battery. Simply unbelievable.

Update on the Continuing Saga of Archer's Frustrating And Time Consuming Lenovo Experience...

Simply attempting to purchase a 6 cell battery.

Call Lenovo with both the _correct_ FRU and Part Number for the 6 cell battery for my new T510
Call duration: 20 minutes, Lenovo rep says no such thing, we have no idea when or if there is a 6 cell battery, and at a minimum it would be six months before that info was avaiable, claims the info I gave was wrong.

10:45 am
Call Lenovo again, get another rep. This rep repeats what first rep said, suggests I call IBM, provides the number.
Call IBM, get transferred four times until finally get someone is willing to listen to what I'm trying to accomplish.
IBM rep says no such thing. Refers me to an outside third party battery vendor.

Call outside Vendor, rep says no such thing. We typically do not get replacement batteries for new model Lenovo computers for eight to twelve months after the model is introduced. This is no surprise to me, as I cannot imagine why they would, they are not Lenovo.

Our own Harryc, kindly supplies me with the link to order this part directly from IBM.
I go online, place the order.

Call Lenovo sales, make another attempt to order battery. This rep says no problem, completes order but I get no confirmation. Call back ask for sales person, not available. Person who answers phone, says he will send the "brain-trust" a message inquiring about this problem. Will get back to me via email later that day. No email response that day.

sbl makes his / her first post on our forum, explaining that the battery is available in Sweden, and took delivery just days after ordering, using the same number I've been using. This encourages me to give it one last shot.

I call Lenovo sales _again_ with same FRU & Part numbers in hand. Sales rep says, oh yes... no problem. Takes order, looks up inventory and says I should have the battery within a week. Sends email confirmation, and I'm now in the que for a 6 cell battery.

So there you have it my friends... the incredibly efficient way that Lenovo runs it's USA operations....ha..ha....

I would like to help with your question, however I don't run on battery power very often so I do not know what run times are like. What I do know is the i7 processor in my T510 seems to manage power well based on feedback from some of my employees and friends with this exact model. Most have also replaced the included 9cell with a 6, as the 9 protrudes out the rear adding more bulk, than weight.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. The T410 uses the same battery as the T510

ThinkPad Battery 25+ (6-cell) 51J0499

To order, just call the main Lenovo line, select sales and give them part number: 51J0499, if they mention it's for a SL400 don't become uneasy, as it is in fact the same battery.

How much did the battery cost?

It was between approx. $120 & $140 USD

Also the battery life is better than they suggested. I get about 2hrs when doing resource intense CAD, & 3 + hrs doing regular office, web research etc.
