T4I BOOT PROBLEM, Blue screen & does not re-install from XP.

#1 Post by raj73 » Sun Feb 14, 2010 7:09 pm

Hi, NEED HELP WITH T 41

Yesterday when i switched on my laptop T41, all it gave me was a blue screen with some error messages, it won't boot in SAFE MODE even. I tried loading XP bootable CD from cd drive for repaiiring or formatting , but it does not read that even, instead I get a funny screen dsplay (picture link below) with two horizontal lines with lots of numbers & graphics with number 5 ( on lower line, with a funny face graphic to it's left side) & "light bulb" (on top line) graphic KEEPS ON BLINKING, it won't move forward from here at all.

Please provide some solution as it was only 4 moths back that i replaced my mother board and now i am in same problem again.

Picture can be seen here: (both blinking areas are circled on the picture)

** IBM Access tool's PC Doctor gives me an option to erase everything, is it similar to formatting? Will it allow me to re-install from CD drive later if i erase everything?

TAHNKS FOR YOUR HELP.
PS: I am happy to format if I can somehow, and re-install from CD if it works.

Welcome to the Forum.

This may be related to WindowsXP update KB977165. Here is how to uninstall the update.

After CHDIR and before $NtUninstall...., you need location of the file such as c:\windows\.. Same thing with other commands.

Hi sjthinkpader, Thanks for you reply.

Microsoft suggestion as per the link you forwarded :-
---------------

To install the Recovery Console, follow these steps:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type d:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons where d is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive. In the case of 'Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, type d:\amd64\winnt32.exe /cmdcons where d is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive.
4. A Windows Setup Dialog Box appears. The Windows Setup Dialog Box describes the Recovery Console option. To confirm the installation, click Yes.
5. Restart the computer. The next time that you start your computer, "Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" appears on the startup menu.
_______________

My problem is that i can't even run the XP CD , it gives a error screen, link : http://www.flickr.com/photos/12539376@N04/4357932604/.

I have checked the XP CD on my desktop computer and it works there.

Please suggest further action. THANKS ONCE AGAIN.

My guess at this point would be the GPU unit needs to be reflowed.

It's all about a faulty soldering breakup which breaks due to lifting it from the edge, but unfortunately this is not the case with my lpatop, display has no problems in my case as i can run IBM access utility and even enter DOSSHELL throught it.

Please shed some more light on my problem, i am just fed up with T41, just 4 months back i had a mother board replacement....dont want to do it again, not worth it.

Try booting from a "live" Linux CD and let us know what happens, Mint should work out of the box on T41:

Good luck.
