Positioning of the New x201 i / si Series?

#1 Post by siva » Mon Feb 15, 2010 6:11 pm

Um..what are these new series?

Is it like:
x201i = entry level x201
x201si = entry level x201s?

Thanks!

The i-series are Thinkpads that use Core i3 CPU. Earlier last week Lenovo also announced T410i, but, correct me if I am wrong, basically it is the same as T410 except for the CPU. So I expect the same for X201i.

The naming is very confusing. The new, "standard" Thinkpads (e.g. X201, T410) use Core i7/i5 CPUs, and in term of price and performance, i7 > i5 > i3. But the names all 3 CPUs starts with "i"... so I don't know why Lenovo would want to separate out Thinkpads that use Core i3. Core i3 are slower than Core i7 and i5, but from benchmark that I have seen, Core i3 is still slightly faster than Core 2 Duo at the same clock speed! They are certainly not so slow (unlike Atom) that they deserved to be treated as second-class citizens.
