You should do unless you're on crack.vovus wrote:Please, tell me, can i feel the difference between:

It'll be quicker but don't expect a massive difference. If you're a gamer you will notice it just like you would do if you use apps like Photoshop but for everyday tasks like browsing the net, using MS Office applications - very little difference.vovus wrote:and total difference in performance...
Alot depends on what you are doing. If gaming or photoshop or computer-aided design, then you may see about a 50% speedup.
But you'll pay a lot of money for it.....
Prices are very good on a T42 right now and you may not need a "p" version. For instance, a T42 2378FVU with the VISA discount (see FAQ Reference in my signature).

I couldn't justify spending all that money on a T43p if I was him. It would be cheaper and advisable to upgrade the T41; nice new 60GB 7200RPM HDD, another 1GB RAM.....dfumento wrote:Alot depends on what you are doing. unless video power is required..... radeonn 7500.... well.... wait till longorn comes on by and your thinkpad won't be able to use all the pretty features. Maybe he is considering buying one or the other, maybe he will sell the t41.... the video performance will be night and day, the loading of programs will be faster... over all system performance will be noticable but not earthshaking

If people have a T40/T41 is just doesn't make sense to spend money on a new machine so soon. Best thing to do is have at least 2-3 years use out of a machine and then spend money on a new unit - at least you get your monies worth that way and get a sensible upgrade performance boost!gazingwa wrote:unless video power is required..... radeonn 7500.... well.... wait till longorn comes on by and your thinkpad won't be able to use all the pretty features. I completly agree.
I keep machines for a while, look at my profile, an X20 for me and an A20M for my wife. I am holding out for Yonah to purchase a new machine when they come preloaded with Longhorn, that for me will be the best bang for the buck.
But what I was saying in my previous post, we don't know his situation, he just wanted to know the difference. Didn't mean to step on toes, sorry.
