X41 Tablet. Who owns one?
X41 Tablet. Who owns one?
Finally I'm in a need of Tablet PC, looks like X41 meets my requirements. Read lots of reviews and saw a lot of videos about X41
Just to make sure I'm getting the thing that's going to meet my needs. Do have one question before getting one.
Take a look to this video, it takes 15 sec for the guy to load IE. Is it that slow?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PONBO5bD ... re=related
By the way I had the same problem with my previous R52, is this the common problem of old IBMs? Also, there was a topic here about problems with waking up the X41 from sleep. I think this 2 things are related to each other. Any suggestions before buying one?

The original Hitachi HDD is pretty slow. Best is to get one of the later HDDs. Here is a table posted on 1/10 in this thread:

Better yet, max out the RAM and load Win7.

Re: X41 Tablet. Who owns one?
I just picked on up off of ebay. X41 Tablet with 1.6Ghz, 1.5GB, 60GB HDD. I had an X41 with a 40GB and it's painful to use it. I bought a compact flash adapter and plan to use it to replace the 40GB drive. I found it odd that the 1.6Ghz tablet runs so much better (related to HD tasks) than the 1.5Ghz running regular XP. Myabe I have an original 40GB drive. The tablet runs pretty good and I only notice nasty HD lag on limited occasions. You can get an IBM 60GB SSD, the best way to go but it's $200 on ebay just for the drive. Compact flash is better but you will get a warning from the BIOS upon boot up saying the drive is not supported. You can setup the bios to continue booting without having to pause so it's not terrible.
I needed something super small and the X41 fits the bill. The battery I got seems to work fine but I am not getting 5+ hours without crazy power management. I think holding off and buying an X61 Tablet would have been the better way to go.
Also, if you need to install Windows XP Tablet without using the recovery partition that will be be tricky. Windows 7 has known video driver compatibility problems so that may be a no go for you. You can download Windows XP Tablet MSDN edition from a torrent site and then convert the install from MSDN to OEM (search goodle MSDN to OEM for XP) and use your COA key to activate.
Other than those foilbles, the X41 is a serviceable little machine.

Re: X41 Tablet. Who owns one?
With RAM prices being so low I would max the RAM as first step. If you are worried about the performance, you may check what's the difference in price against a X61T. As mentioned above, another option would be to buy an new HDD or an SSD for the X41...Sindbad wrote: looks like X41 meets my requirements

Re: X41 Tablet. Who owns one?
I do not want to invest in buying SSD or another HDD, I might think about 16GB CF. The X41 Tablet can only go up to 1,5GB RAM. Prices on X61T are now high.
Did you received it already?greg.billings wrote:I just picked on up off of ebay.

Re: X41 Tablet. Who owns one?
Looks like the Kingston 266x CF card is really fast. That would be a good choice. I have several RiDATA 233x cards that is reasonably fast too.

Re: X41 Tablet. Who owns one?
He's out of ram because of all the crap that IBM installs with the system
Upgrade to 2GB for like $20, and this should be a very snappy system for general internet/office usage.
My IE takes about 1 second to load.
Even with the stock 40GB slow HDD, it wouldn't take anywhere near as long as in the video.

Re: X41 Tablet. Who owns one?
OK, got mine today. 1.6 ghz, 1gb ram, 60gb 4200, Finger Print . In addition I've received Lenovo external USB CD-DVD\RW ROM that is sweet because it was not listed on the auction. I paid $250 for mine. Build quality is better than new lenovos for sure and WinXP works just fine, it is not slow at all - do not see the reason to upgrade to CF yet. Browsing the Internet is so cool with pen... omg!!! I'm amazed.
2 things;
1. I'm not used to Backspace button on keyboard yet, it is small.
2. There is also NO thinkLight
Questions:
1. Is there anybody on this form who's got Win7 installed on particular configurations? Is it worth it?
2. I'm planning to install W7U 32bit will it support the Tablet PC features? Or I need to install specific version of W7?
3. I have "IBM Thinkpad" logo on palm but there is "Lenovo X41" logo on LCD frame... So, is it IBM or Lenovo? I'm confused
4. I have Bluetooth logo on the LCD frame and it is off (no light) Do I really have a bluetooth (?) because in the list of hardware I only see IrDATA but no bluetooth... Any ideas?

Re: X41 Tablet. Who owns one?
It can be done, though I recommend upgrading the RAM module. Google around the Net and look around here for previous related discussions.Sindbad wrote:1. Is there anybody on this form who's got Win7 installed on particular configurations? Is it worth it?
Does it worth it? If it costs you nothing to obtain a copy of Windows 7, then go ahead. Otherwise it's a more complicated question - A Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade generally costs about $100.
Home Premium or above.Sindbad wrote:2. I'm planning to install W7U 32bit will it support the Tablet PC features? Or I need to install specific version of W7?
Possibly means one of the parts, either the LCD cover or the palmrest, is not from the original machine...?Sindbad wrote:3. I have "IBM Thinkpad" logo on palm but there is "Lenovo X41" logo on LCD frame... So, is it IBM or Lenovo? I'm confused
Press Fn-F5, see if the Bluetooth option is there. If not, go into BIOS, see if Bluetooth is disabled.Sindbad wrote:4. I have Bluetooth logo on the LCD frame and it is off (no light) Do I really have a bluetooth (?) because in the list of hardware I only see IrDATA but no bluetooth... Any ideas?
You may even check the original system configuration online using the product ID, which, among other places, are shown on one of the labels on the bottom side. However, the machine could be built using parts salvaged from different sources so the information may not be correct.
Cheers.

Just did it, works just fine with 1GB RAMloyukfai wrote: It can be done, though I recommend upgrading the RAM module. Google around the Net and look around here for previous related discussions.
I don't think so, I saw a lot of laptops on the market with IBM\Lenovo logos. Please correct me if i'm wrong.loyukfai wrote:Possibly means one of the parts, either the LCD cover or the palmrest, is not from the original machine...?
Yap, there was a BT however the drivers were not installedloyukfai wrote:Press Fn-F5, see if the Bluetooth option is there. If not, go into BIOS, see if Bluetooth is disabled.
Checked everything the ID matches the original configs.loyukfai wrote:You may even check the original system configuration online using the product ID, which, among other places, are shown on one of the labels on the bottom side. To all of you who want to install W7 on X41 Tablet - windows will only install LAN drivers by default but NOT the wireless. If you even go to lenovo website and download the drivers for wireless it will not work. You will need to plug the LAN Cable to your laptop and run the "Windows update" (unless you have Win7 Service Pack or something like that) it will install all the drivers from there. Many people are facing this problem according to 'google hint' (see pic)

#2 i something I'm still not used to with my X60t. You never realize how much you use it until you can't use it at all.Sindbad wrote:2 things;

#1 is something you get used to with time after going to an ultralight
