R50e Celeron M 330 > Pentium M 715

#1 Post by erozsolt » Thu Feb 24, 2005 6:32 pm

I am thinking about buying a R50e with Celeron M330 with builtin WLAN instead of a R50e with Pentium 715 with no miniPCI slot and no WLAN. Is it possible to change the processor of this notebook to a Pentium M 715/725?
- I opened it and the I think it is easy to change the processor.
- I don't know if there is any other compatibility with BIOS or Embedded program or etc. for locking Celeron models to Celeron processors.
- Will it use all power saving features of the Pentium M model?
- Is the heatsink/fan all the same for all R50e models? Will it overheat?

I will try this operation in a few days. Maybe I can tell you more.

Or perhaps you did it in the meantime :):

Celeron M does not have SpeedStep enabled, and it will use more power than Pentium M.

The battery life fell by about 60 minutes when compared to a Pentium M. I would go with the Pentium M.
