I have owned four thinkpads. Two T61s, an X31, and currently an X200. Only the X31 was truly silent whereas the Core 2 based T61 and X200 emit all sorts of noises when the CPU is under load, under suspend power state or when on battery.
Just wondering, for those who have purchased the new thinkpads with the latest CPUs, does your machine emit those high pitch noises and buzzing that core 2-based thinkpads did?

I don't hear any buzzing from the T410. The loudest thing I can hear is the Hitachi HDD followed by the fan spinning past 4k RPM. That requires me to be in a silent room.

Re: T410/510 high pitch noises and buzzing sounds?
My X200s whines a bit... usually only hear this at the dead of night when ambient noise is practically non existent. The noise is definitely coming from around the processor area of the chassis.
Doesn't seem dependent on load, and perhaps more common (only present?) when docked, although I haven't tested that hypothesis.
(I also get a similar noise through the headphones... again from memory when connected to the headphone connector on the UltraBase... maybe only hearing it because I'm using some Grados, however.)
TBH, if I had a regular HDD rather than an SSD I prolly wouldn't notice the noise. It is an irritant, however.
