installing 2nd HDD as primary drive?

#1 Post by feathertop » Thu Feb 24, 2005 8:33 pm

I'm buying a 2378fvu, I got a 512M mem upgrade, the only problem now is the 40G included HDD. I plan to buy a 7k60 HDD, and install it as the primary one, (use the installed 40G in a ultrabay slim adapter as the secondary HDD).

Can anyone tell me how to put the IBM recovery partition to the 60G HDD so that when I need to restore the machine, I can run it from the new 7k60 HDD?

Thanks in advance..

On a T42 you can make recovery discset.
Start menu/programs/access ibm/create recovery media

It makes 2 DVD or 7 CD.
You should use USB DVD writer instead of the builtin CDRW/DVD drive.
Only one diskset creation is allowed. When you created it, you cannot make another one.

From these recovery media you can restore the recovery partition.
So after 2 hours you have a factory-content installed TP with a bigger drive.

Well... once the recovery of factory install onto the new drive is complete, the system will allow you to make another set. Not sure how useful that would be.
