Newbie sks advice: Currently using 600E, want 2 buy diff tp?

#1 Post by BBabe » Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:50 pm

Hi All,
I hope I've posted in the correct forum. I'm new and not terribly technical. I'm currently using my 2nd 600E (which I loved), and just like the 1st 600X one the screen has gone out. I'm not skilled enough to replace the inverter, so will sell it. I'd like to upgrade to a (refurb/used) recc. tp, that I can use the floppy, dvd and other parts from my 600E. I was thinking of the T series - not that I know a ton about it.
Bottom line I'd like the tp to have at least P3/ 500GHz/20Gb/256MB. Since it'll be refurbed and I'm on a budget, I'm trying to do less than $400 if at all possible, but at the same time I need it to last more than a year
Can anyone recc what my next tp should be, and the prices I should be looking at?
Thanks in advance :)

If you hope to continue to use your 600 accessories and drives, then you're limited to getting another 600.

Check eBay for a 600X to match your requirements, you should be able to find one at your price.

ughhh, gosh I'm green lol. I didn't even know the parts weren't swappable - What about the harddrive?
I don't want another 600 series, I just don't trust the screens. 2 is enough for me, so I'd like to look at another series with the specs I need.

the optical drives, hard drive and memory are usable in a 570/570E
The hard drive itself is standard, should be able to be used in any machine as long as it is the right height.

Ahh, I see...
Now if the swappleble parts were of no concern, what tp for my price and specs would you recc I upgrade to? I was thinking of the T23, but honestly do not any more about that than any other TP. I just want something that is not too expensive, and will last at least a year (I know a contradiction right)
I appreciate your help

Any t20, t21, t22, t23 would fit your needs... might have to do a memory upgrade, they are all great machines. Bigger screen than your 600x and available with an sxga+ resolution (highly recomended). Put as much ram as you can afford in it and enjoy, The 23 would be prefered due to the 133 bus it uses otherwise, go with any of them.
Thats all I know, other members here could tell you more in depth, I don't have much experience with the t's, I own an x and an a
