What will wide screen display look like with docking station

#1 Post by 257roberts » Wed Feb 24, 2010 10:58 pm

I have a X41 Tablet and also have the docking station. I am thinking of adding a wide screen monitor and external keyboard to use with the dock. Has anyone had any experience using a wide screen monitor instead of the standard square one? I have a friend who will give me a wide screen but have to go get it. I wasn't sure if the graphic card in the X41 would support it. If you have any info for me I would appreciate it. I swapped for the Lenovo SSD and really like the machine now running Win7.

I've recently had an X41t, but switched for a regular X41, but the graphics subsystem should be similar and pretty much be running the Intel GMA 900. That chipset is rated to run 4:3 external monitors "up to" 2048 x 1536 at 16M colors, so I'd think that it would drive pretty much any of the screens that are out there. That being said, I haven't a widescreen monitor personally, although I can't imagine why it would do one that's within reason such as 22-23" models.

Hopefully somebody has some direct experience out there that'll throw in their .02 worth.

If my memory serves, some years ago, I have tried using an X41T to power a wide-screen display with a native resolution of 1680 x 1050.

That's without a docking station.

Cheers.

I just plugged my X41T, sitting in a type 2506 dock, into a Dell 2407WFP. I am able to achieve a maximum resolution of 1600x1200. I am running Win7 Pro. Hope that helps.

Unless that is a typo, it's not good news for wide screens. However, if you meant you were able to drive the monitor at it's native resolution of 1920X1200, then that's good news.

I guess that it is bad new then. The monitors native resolution is 1920x1200. The X41T, in the dock, could only achieve a maximum resolution of 1600x1200. That was with the monitor as the only display, as compared to both the tablet's LCD and the external monitor displaying the desktop. Hope that clarifies things.

Tried another driver...? Apparently the hardware is capable but that particular resolution may not be in the graphics driver.

I got the monitor and plugged it in. I was not able to drive the monitor up to the native resolution 1920x1200, but it still looked okay. I would like to swap drivers if someone has one that is working correctly for the widescreen. Thanks.

That's surprising. Are you using the DVI output? Try VGA, which should support 1920x1200 without any issue.

Thanks for the links. No, I did not try the drivers as they are for XP and I am running Win7. It is not a concern to me. I only plugged the X41T into the monitor to help the OP with his question. :)

@257roberts: Found this (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=947830) via this (http://www.jjclements.co.uk/index.php/2 ... ution-fix/), which involves editing the INF files.

@mklym: Welcome. Just trying to help. : )

Cheers.
