Experience Index 1.0 on T60p

#1 Post by ArtShapiro » Fri Feb 26, 2010 1:53 pm

Looks like my ATI graphics on the newly-Win7'ed T60P are killing me.

On XP, I had to back off the hardware acceleration drastically in order to prevent sporadic bluescreening.

With Win 7, running the Experience applet, I was repetitively getting a diagnostic that the ATI video drivers had to be restarted, and eventually a bluescreen. Backing off the hardware acceleration just one notch seemed to cure that one. But both the graphics and the business graphics scores are 1.0, with the other three components of the index 4.8 and 4.9. I suppose if I ever get around to putting in the 7xxx CPU I bought a couple months ago, and a 7200 RPM drive, those latter ones will go up nicely and, more importantly, the machine will be more responsive.

But I'm baffled about the video. Is it really that bad in a T60p? I've never been totally sure about what I purchased on this used 2007-94U because it was advertised, and came with, SVGA+ (1400x1050) resolution but shows as 1600x1200 in the TABook.

Hmmm, that is curious that you system specs don't match the type number. That type number should have 1600x1200 display and 256MB GPU. Just curious... is the system unit serial number in the BIOS the same as the label on the bottom of the base?
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Affirmative.

I wonder if I have some sort of rebuilt Frankenpad. I'd like to say this issue is more a curiosity than anything, as I'm hardly a gamer, but that low a score precludes any of the nifty aero stuff, and I confess to being easily amused by trinkets like that.

I have an experience index of 2 on my T42 with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600. I got updated ATI drivers from Windows Update. Check Windows Update for better drivers.

Well, folks, I most assuredly haven't been drinking (aside from Nicaraguan coffee) so:

I'd already run Windows Update, several times in the course of the installation. I was totally up-to-date.

I first rolled back the drivers, which put me on Windows 7 stock VGA drivers at 800x600. But it let me up the resolution to SVGA+, to my surprise. Ran the experience index, and got the 1.0 as before.

I then let update do its thing, and once again got the December 2008 drivers that were there before the rollback. Web searches revealed nothing newer. The experience index once again bluescreened, so I went to cut back the hardware acceleration a tad, just as before. And that facility was greyed-out, unlike before, really tying my hands.

So I let the machine sit all afternoon, here in the office, as I normally work on my desktop. Just on a whim, I just reran the experience (how nauseating) index applet.

This time it ran without incident, and shows a whopping 4.3 for the graphics values. These are precisely the same drivers that were installed before.

I'm going to quit while I'm ahead, but I'd be lying if I said I understood what's going on.

4.3 is actually the same value I have on my graphics rating. So it looks like you're in line with what it should be...
