T60 restored to Factory Image but no Create Recovery Media
T60 restored to Factory Image but no Create Recovery Media
I just restored my T60 to factory settings by pressing the ThinkVantage button at boot up. All restored perfectly.
I need to make a Recovery Media but I am not seeing that choice in ThinkVantage program folder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Re: T60 restored to Factory Image but no Create Recovery Media
Download and install the latest compatible version of ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery from Lenovo's support site. After it has been installed, in the ThinkVantage menu, you'll have an item called "Create Recovery Media".
Re: T60 restored to Factory Image but no Create Recovery Media
Thank you TTY. That worked perfectly. Interesting that original factory image did not have RnR installed.
I managed to create disks perfectly.
Can these recovery disks be used on my other T60 which does not have a recovery partition? If so, what about the COA serial number?

Recovery disks from one type will work for the whole series of that type (and some others as well).
The recovery uses an IBM/Lenovo Volume Key, so no need to worry about that.

Re: T60 restored to Factory Image but no Create Recovery Media
I just installed RnR, I used Create Recovery Media - it burned one disc and asked me to label it "Rescue and Recovery Startup Disc" and.. that was all. What should I do? Isn't it supposed to burn more than just one disc?! Any idea?

Re: T60 restored to Factory Image but no Create Recovery Media
I found the answer to my question:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 68317.html
My Create Recovery Media dialog window doesn't have "Recovery Discs" section but only the first - "Rescue Media". Now it's clear why it burned just one disc. Still I don't know why I don't have the Recovery Discs section, the system it's new installed (using the recovery partion).

Re: T60 restored to Factory Image but no Create Recovery Media
It would have worked if the fresh installation had been done using recovery disks, which would create the recovery partition.
Without this recovery partition you can not burn recovery disks.

Re: T60 restored to Factory Image but no Create Recovery Media
I have the recovery partition, I just used it to fresh install the system; after that I installed RnR and tried to burn the recovery discs but, as I said before, I have no other option than create Rescue Media (Rescue and Recovery Startup Disc). No option for create Recovery Discs.
I don't know if this is important or not, but my T60 is a refurbished unit (09/12)(I have 2 XP Pro stickers on the unit base - the orginal one and a new one "for refurbished PCs") - and the XP Pro installed (using recovery partition) has SP3 already. Anyway, I can find a set of recovery discs for T60, but it has SP2 and I thought it will be nice to burn my own SP3 set, to use it in case of a HDD upgrade.

Re: T60 restored to Factory Image but no Create Recovery Media
In that case I assume that the recovery disks from that partition have already been burned by the previous owner.
You get only one chance to do that.
How about taking an image of the recovery partition, and store that on another PC/DVD, together with a backup of the MBR.
Use these to transfer onto a new HD.
Make sure to try if it works OK for you.
