Client Security Software (CSS) v5.41

#1 Post by ranjit » Fri Feb 25, 2005 5:19 am

Hi All,

What exactly is this software? What are the 'real' advantages and benefits of installing this software?

The installation guide says that I should completely remove all instances of previous version before installing the latest version. How I can I tell if CSS is installed in my system. I do not see it listed in Start--> All Programs and in Add or Remove Programs.

When I access 'Security Information' in Thinkpad Configuration, I see security chip as 'disabled', and CSS as 'not installed'. Can I safely assume that CSS does not exist on my system?

Cheers and best regards,
Ranjit

IBM CSS is never installed on a new system. If you haven't installed it, it's not there.

The Benefits:
1. The key is stored in the TPM chip (instead of a file on the hdd)
2. UVM replaces Windows logon
3. you can encrypt files and folders
4. enables usage of the TPM chip for 3rd party software like Safeguard Easy

Read the manual carefully before you decide to install it. I would recommend it just for advanced users because data loss is possible if you not know what you are doing.
