T60 XP-->Win7 upgrade: Can install Lenovo utilities somehow?
T60 XP-->Win7 upgrade: Can install Lenovo utilities somehow?
I am running on my original XP install on my T60. All (or virtually all) of the Lenovo installed utilities, etc. are running on the machine. It has the original 60 GB HD. I just bumped the RAM from 1.5 GB to 3 GB, and have a Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit upgrade disk with key. I am told I need to do a clean install with it from where I'm at, and that's fine (I think I can figure out how to do that), but I'm wondering if there's any way I can install useful Lenovo accessories/utilities, etc. Does Lenovo have them online for download? Or am I going to have to look for and install a variety of freeware and for pay utilities, etc.?
Some of the things I see on here now that seem like I'd like to somehow retain/reinstall:
Thinkvantage Productivity Center (and its myriad sub categories)
Diskeeper Lite
Multimedia Center for Think Offerings (and its set of applications)
SoundMax
All the Thinkvantage applications including for fingerprint software, Rescue & Recovery, Power Manager, System Update, etc.

You need to have your wifi and ethernet drivers separate, so you can go online after installing W7 and those drivers.
Then install DotNetFramework from M$ and SystemUpdate 4 (version for W7) from Lenovo.
Then run SystemUpdate, it will get you all your drivers etc. EXCEPT any CD/DVD-writing and DVD playing software.
Alternatively, go here and get a W7 recovery set for T60.
Edit: apologies for giving the wrong version initially.

I didn't see an ethernet driver for the T60 for Windows 7, just one for Vista. I suppose I should look for a Windows 7 driver for the wireless adapter in the T60 and have it handy (i.e. on a USB drive). I do have other computers, so I can download stuff at any time. I found a file at Lenovo downloads that looks to be maybe a package install for the T60 (and probably others) for Windows 7. It's 70 MB or so and named deinstall_tp.exe. I have it on my flash drive along with something called "Hotkey Features Integration for Win7, Vista, XP, 2000" with file name 6wvu51ww.exe, about 6 MB.RealBlackStuff wrote:You need to have your wifi and ethernet drivers separate, so you can go online after installing W7 and those drivers.
Then install DotNetFramework from M$ and SystemUpdate 3.15 (version for W7) from Lenovo.

Actually System Update for windows 7 is version 4. I am using it and it pulls everything you need.RealBlackStuff wrote:You need to have your wifi and ethernet drivers separate, so you can go online after installing W7 and those drivers.

You can find the cd recording software on the windows 7 pages.

I've downloaded systemupdate40-2009-10-19.exe. Hopefully, running this after installing Windows 7 will update everything. Well, I can hope! I put it on my flash drive with the other downloads.Actually System Update for windows 7 is version 4. I am using it and it pulls everything you need.

Re: T60 XP-->Win7 upgrade: Can install Lenovo utilities somehow?
Muse,
You will need to verify with Lenovo that the utilities are indeed compatible with Windows 7. Also, when migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 you will not have an "in place upgrade" option. You will however have the option to select "custom" install when prompted. The Windows 7 install process will then copy all of your data in "My Documents" over to a Windows.old folder within Windows 7 itself. All applications and documents stored in other locations will have to be reinstalled / transferred manually.
