Going RED Grrrrr

#1 Post by gb_ibmguy » Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:57 pm

One of my A31p IPS Flexview's has started to give me the red screen of death warning on start up. Everyday on wake-up from sleep, it takes a little longer for the display to come right. I know it's the CCFL Tube going away, that's understandable due to age.
I just happen to have another IPS panel with a new back light that I can swap out. (lucky me :D ). My question is, how hard is it to swap just the panel, not just the lid? It would appear that I could just undo the bezel, the 6 screws on each lid, unhook the inverters and the video cable from the panels and swap them out without disassembling half the laptop to get the lid off (remember, this is an A31p with the antenna wires that wrap over, around and through everywhere). Whats the PIA factor in this?

It's really not that much of a problem...as long as you're neat and patient, you'll be fine.

With that said...

"Going to sleep" is not something I suggest an A31p ever to encounter, and at this point you should know why...

As long as the LCD performs well when warmed up, I'd leave it be but that's me...

That's kind of what I figured, slow and neat and tidy 8)

Yes, after about 15 seconds, the display is a bright as new, so, I'm going to leave it alone until it dies.

Ahh, 'Sleep, Perchance to dream', or in A31 parlance, 'Sleep, Perchance to never wake up'. I believe my count of permanently 'sleeping' A31's is now up to 2. But, I have to admit, they look so peaceful :). And every now and again, I'll drag one out and try to wake the Sleeping Beauty up, not with a kiss, but with a screwdriver. In any case, point well taken.
