t410 size comparison

hello,

can anyone with a t410 compare its size with a t42p? Namely, is it much thicker?

Looking to buy a new thinkpad, but the t410 looks rather thick and wonder if I should wait for a well-specced t410s.

T410 is pretty big (no ruler to measure size)
T410s is about as big as just the lower half of the T410. Certainly is lighter.

Hey Ducky can u give us a little review on the t410s? You seem to be one of the first to have one. Would love to hear your impressions and importantly for me battery life and heat.

No problem Harry... I keep forgetting which forum has which limits on pics!

Unfortunately, I dont get much hands on time with either machine as they are tethered to the store display (though I can walk in most anytime and play to my hearts content).

Big thing I noticed is much more keyboard flex on both machines compared with my old T60 and X61t. Corner to corner flex (holding either machine by the corner of the palmrest) is very good and feels solid.

Ill stop by again when the machine is fully charged and see if I cant get some battery estimates for you.

Great, I'd love to see some battery specs...maybe just take the ac adapter off and see what the estimate says. Also can you feel the bottom of the laptop and see how the heat is?

Basically it stays cold while idle/light load, but if you run at full load the bottom reaches 44C=110F

3.43 hours - 9 cell. T410 with an I7-620M. The machine idles in the mid 60*C range...mostly around 65*C. That is warmer than I am used to in a laptop. The top/bottom case is cool to the touch, so internal cooling/ventilation is good. If battery life is your thing, do not get the I7 or the discrete graphics.

Schwaby, would photos taken from a Nikon D200 (DSLR) of a T43 (15") and T410 be good enough for you? I'll include the power adapters and everything else if you want to compare those as well. Macro photos if you care for the lid or chassis texture.

Personal battery life for me has been pretty high, this shot was taken when I was in class. I noticed the reading was... Quite high

Speaking of battery life, personal experience but I was converting a few files for someone who didn't understand MP3 encoding with all four virtual cores running at full throttle for a hour then copied a few files from my machine onto an USB drive to place onto their machine. For four hours I didn't realize the AC adapter was plugged into an outlet controlled by a switch... That operated the light in the room. Still had 50% battery left.

My idle temperatures roll around 36C to 48C depending on what the weather feels like and what the machine was just doing. If you do load the i7-620m up, you will hit 75C+ temperatures, but the machine is still comfortable in my lap.

It seems the NVS3100m/Quadro FX880m/"Mystery Meat" is the worst part in the T410 for power draw and heat generation when it decides to full throttle. AFAIK it changes its core/memory speed "depending on load and what the drivers feel like". Whenever someone makes a version of Rivatuner that supports the new GPU, just lock it to the lowest speed. You'll be able to get away with Aero running and still get battery life as high as the integrated graphics models. NVIDIA screwed up on the drivers but somehow (I know, coming from me, the guy with 5 8800GTXs dead in a row and now on the 6th replacement.) made a good mobile GPU.
