EXTERNAL KEYBOARD AND MOUSE

#1 Post by KINGCOBRA5 » Fri Feb 25, 2005 3:16 pm

1. I am totally new to ThinkPads and this Forum.
2. All I know is "model 2652".
3. Everyone seems to talk about "A31", "T12", etc. I have no idea where to find that kind of number on my machine.

Problem: I can't get an external keyboard or mouse to work thru the USB port. Also, when I look for drivers, there appear to be a zillion of them, and I can't figure out which one I need.

HELP !

Open the display. Look right next to the right hand hinge and you'll see you have either an A30 or an A31, both extraordinary machines. Give us the complete model number from the label on the bottom of your machine and we'll know preciesely what you have.

Are the ports turned on? They should be by default, but there is the ability to turn them off in the Configuration Utility. Have they ever worked with anything?

Let us know the complete model number and we can give you some guidance. What OS are you running BTW?

THINKPAD EXTERNAL KEYBOARD AND MOUSE

#3 Post by KINGCOBRA5 » Sat Feb 26, 2005 12:50 am

1. Thanks for the quick response.
2. Model 2654-D4U
3. Number A31
4. I scrapped the idea of using PS2 keyboard and mouse with USB connector converters. I bought a USB keyboard and USB mouse ... they both work just fine.
5. I also bought a 4 port USB to plug into the side, and three of the ports work, but one doesn't. Is that because the bad one is turned off, or could it really be bad? How can I tell? Where are the ports turned on and off?

Thanks for the great help!

OOPS!

It's a model 2652-D4U (not 2654)!
