Lenovo put a glossy screen on my T61p! What gives?! PIC

#1 Post by none » Thu Mar 04, 2010 6:29 pm

Hi guys,

I sent off my 6460-67U last month to replace a dimming backlight and it just came back with a glossy screen!

Image

I can't turn it on yet as I'm at work and the hard drive and AC adapter are at home, but should I be concerned here? I have never heard of a glossy T6x before…

If this thing wasn't designed for the T61p, could it impact my laptop adversely in terms of heat generation or power consumption or something?

I hope this new screen is at least WUXGA. Glossy might be good for resale value but if it's lower resolution then someone at Lenovo is getting heck!

Your original screen was 15.4" 1920x1200 LCD, which must be something like wUXGA+.
Glossy is for the likes of fancy crappy Dells and HPs, you probably don't want that on a business laptop.
It'll reflect mightily if you go to the likes of Starbucks etc....

Just a follow up, I got home and it is indeed a 1920x1200 screen. Can anybody suggest what model of ThinkPad this could have possibly come from?

Here is a Bizarro World screenshot for you all, a glossy ThinkPad and a matte MacBook Pro!

The ThinkPad screen actually looks very good when on. The viewing angle is remarkable.

I am thinking of keeping this unique snowflake!

Interesting! I think Lenovo must run out of matte screen stock as glossy screen is not a standard part of any T61p, but installing a glossy screen in a Thinkpad is certainly doable (we all see it now). You should have nothing to worry about as far as it has the correct spec as your original matte screen. Congratulations on your unique T61p.
My favouritePad is X61. My eBay feedback is here. :)
My next goal of upgrading my super X61 is: XGA -> SXGA+

@ RealBlackStuff:

Thanks for the information. I can get 12" SXGA+ screens a little cheaper than that  and I already have one in hand. I just don't have time to disassemble my super X61's screen. :banghead:

Sorry, off topic now.

A thought I just had- that screen *might* be LED backlit. Is there any way to tell for sure?
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

Oi. Someone posted in it, resurrecting it, so it showed in the "view new posts", mostly how I search for topics.

I see someone's been Necroposting here lol

ps. I once had a T420 with a glossy screen, it was a corporate machine so it's possible it could have been swapped... many corporate laptops get closed with things like pens sitting on the keyboards and such which will easily crack a screen, but I've never heard of a T61 series coming back from lenovo depot with a glossy screen.
