Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update
I'm using ThinkVantage System update 3 on my ThinkPad R40 and when I go to try to get updates I get this error: Error 75 received from the system update server. Please contact support center.
IBM: 700C,701C,760XD,770Z,600X,560X,560Z,570,310ED,380Z,390X, i1200,i1400,240,A22m,A22e,A30,G40, R31,R40,R50,R60,R61,T20,T23,T30,T40,T60,T61,X21,X30,X41,X41T,X60,X60T,Z60m, Z60T, X3200 Server, NetVista M41 6792,M41 6790,X40 Aptiva 2170,ThinkCentre S50,S50 Ultra,A50p,M50,M51,M82 WorkPad 20X,Z50
Re: Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update
Last time I got that error consistently, the machine type and model was not programmed in BIOS. What does BIOS show for your Machine type/model/serial # string and does it match what is on the bottom of the Thinkpad?

Re: Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update
I still get Error 75 during a system update on my ThinkPad R40. Do I go under Regedit?
Looked under system information
on system model it says TP-1P___
I went on lenovo.com and went to drivers and clicked auto dectect my system and get this error message: No products match 'TP-1-P___'.
If this was done during the bios update witch I didn't do the the update, how do I replace it with my real model type and model? I doesn't let me redo the bios update information. Im sure this is the reason Im getting this error.

Re: Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update
Do a forum search for HMD or hardware Maintenance diskette. Only authorized Lenovo repair centers have (legitimate) access to the HMD. We can't discuss where or how to get it here.

Re: Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update
OK, I'll explain it again. In BIOS, the serial number field should be a combination of your machine type, model, and serial number. The way it is programmed is using a diskette called an HMD (Hardware Maintenance Diskette). When it is programmed, here is how the input string would look - 1STTTTMMMSSSSSSS. So in your case it should be 1S27243XUFX04761
It is explained on page 58 here.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/6012276/Hardw ... widescreen
Without the diskette and a diskette drive, there is no way to program this field. The diskette itself is Lenovo Proprietary, and we can't discuss how to obtain it here. If you contact a 3rd party Lenovo business partner/repair center they can program it for you. This probably will not be free of charge. With all of that said, and entirely off topic, let me remind you that google is your friend.
I hopes this helps, because I can't think of another way to explain it.

Re: Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update
I have a disk drive from my Portable Drive Bay 2000 and I have a bios changing disk for my 560X
with the disk I was able to change the easy setup display and any boot displayed options, and change your bios. but can't find it now, wish I knew where it was. I belive you were able to download it, but that was when IBM owned it and went to IBM.com for the ThinkPad drivers at that time.
